Report of CWMI’s National Seminar and 30th General Body Meeting held at Dhyana Ashram, Chennai on 22nd – 24th July 2011
 
Christian Workers’ Movement India had its National Seminar on “MIGRANT WORKERS” and 30th Annual General Body Meeting at Dhyana Ashram, Chennai from 22nd to 24th July 2011. 96 delegates from 27 Dioceses all over India and 10 Sri Lankan delegates participated. The president of CWM India, Mr. Rajamani welcomed the gathering. Most. Rev. Dr. A. M. Chinnappa, Archbishop of Madras Mylapore inaugurated the programme, in his inaugural address he spoke about the importance of the awareness programs are needed to be given to the Migrant Workers. Rt. Rev. Dr. Oswald Lewis, Chairman, CBCI Labour Commission, addressed “Role of Laities” and insisted the Christian’s role for migrant workers. Rt. Rev. Dr. Lawrance Pius, Auxiliary Bishop of Madras – Mylapore Archdiocese, given the details of the “Social Teaching of the Church”. Mr. Teobald, President, CWM Sri Lanka, Ms. Francian Vargeese, WSM South Region Co-ordinator, and Rev. Fr. V. Louis, National Chaplain, felicitated the programme. During the seminar honored the former Chaplain of Rev. Fr. Thomas Joseph and Rev. Fr. B. Antony.
 
Dr. Bernad D’Samy, Co-ordinator, AMI and Professor, Loyola College, spokes on the internal and external migrants and given latest statistics of the external migrants of India. Mrs. Shanthini Moses, Social Worker, given the LCD presentation about the external migrants status at Oman and Rev. Fr. Dr. V. Hendry Louis, Spiritual Director, SH Seminary, spoke on the “Word of God in the life of Christian workers and Team Building”. There after the leaders were visited the Mahabalipuram scripture workers and participated the holy mass celebrated by Rt. Rev. Dr. A. Neethinathan, Bishop of Chingleput.
 
During the 30th AGM, the Indore Diocese CWM has been affiliated to the National Movement.
 
In the General body Meeting and the following resolution has been passed that The CWM will send the letters to the President of India, Prime Minister and to the Chief Justice of India to give the equal rights to Christian Dalits as other Dalits of India receive the status.
 
RESOLUTION
 
To conduct the signature campaign at every Diocese and send it to the Prime Minister, President of India and Chief Justice of Supreme Court “to give the equal rights to the Dalith Christians and to implement the Justice Rangnath Mishra Committee Recommendations.”
 
The program was concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr. G. A. Mangala Raj, General Secretary.
 
REPORT OF NORTHERN ZONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME
 
Christian Workers’ Movement India has conducted the two days Northern Zonal Training program on “Migrant Workers” at Sneh Sadan, Catholic Bishop’s House, Jabalpur on 26th and 27th November 2011. 45 leaders were participated from Northern Indian Dioceses of Ahmedabad, Bombay, Bhopal, Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore, Jabalpur, Nagpur and Varanasi. The meeting was started with the registration and prayer by Rev. Fr. Dilraj, Varanasi Diocese. Ms. Bina Augustine, National Exco. member, welcomed the gathering. Mr. M. Rajamani, National President, presided over the program and informed that to expand the movement at Northern India CWM India has taken the full effort hence all the North Indian Diocesan leaders should take sincere efforts and to expand the movement at neighboring Diocese. Rev. Dr. Fr. Valan Arasu, Diocesan Chaplain, felicitated the program. Mrs. Loraine Lobo, MLA, M.P, Vidhan Sabah, inaugurated the program in her address she insisted that unity is the importance for the Christian Associations & movements and appreciated the movement activities.
 
Dr. Neelkanth G. Pends, Head, Department of Economics, RDVV, Jabalpur, spokes on “Realities of Migrant and Un-organized Workers”. In his talk he explained the following poits of basic causes for the labour problem of Agricultural labour, Migrant Workers, Garment indignity workers and other un-organized workers. Dr. Mrs. Shubhada Pandey, Managing Secretary, Shiksha Mandal M. P, Shakha, delivered the “Social Status of Women Workers”. In her speech she narrated that the rights and sharing of the father’s property need of the self help groups, dowry problem. Mr. P. V. Thomas, Program Coordinator for MSY, CBCI Labour Commission, explained the schemes of “Mazdoor Suraksha Yajana”. Which is the CBCI Labour Commission’s coordinating program of “Social Security Schemes for un-organized workers. In this scheme mainly Pension, Accident and Mother Care schemes are there. Mr. Munna Lal Bahoria, Former Labour Commissioner, briefly explained the Social Welfare Schemes for un-organized workers, he mentioned about the statistics of un-organized workers, different labour acts and the wages for the different category of workers at MP. Mr. Jomon Cherussery, National Chaplain, talked the CWM’s Methodology of See – Judge – Act and Review of Life and how can influence the people.
 
Most. Rev. Dr. Gerald Almeida, Bishop of Jabalpur Diocese, is the Chief Guest for the program, he appreciated the movement activities and he explained that during their seminary period of 1976 at Poona Fr. Thomas Joseph and Mr. George Fernandes taken the subjects on labour and inaugurated the MSY schemes through CWM.
 
The workshop session also conducted and Mr. M. Rajamani, National President has the moderator for this session. Finally the meeting was concluded with the prayer and vote of thanks by Mr. Domnic Nazareth, Diocesan Vice President.
